Marcus "Pop" Woods Scholarship
Eligibility, Rules, and Application Procedures

Candidates for the award shall be nominated by an active Florida Council PDCA member in good standing. Such nominations shall be in writing, addressed to the Board of Trustees, Marcus "Pop" Woods Scholarship Fund, P. O. Box 1056, Mulberry, FI 33860. The nominating letter must include the name, address, age and telephone number of the candidate, the name and address of the school or institute the candidate attends, or where he or she has been accepted or enrolled, and shall contain general qualifications and experience of the candidate. The nominating party should emphasize any facts that they feel might enlighten and inform the Trustees relative to the individual nominated.

Upon receipt of the nomination letter, the candidate will be mailed an application for a scholarship award.

All the nominations, applications, supporting documents and date must be postmarked no later than April 1 st of the current year. The same date limitation shall prevail in each following year.
The Trustees will make annual awards to members of the PDCA, their families, employees or their families, officers, directors, as well as the general public, based upon character, financial need, matriculation o attendance in any educational, profession, technical, educational or other recognized and established institution school, or training course curriculum.

The Trustees, in their absolute discretion, select the recipients of these awards (known as Florida Council Marcus "Pops'! Woods Scholarship Fund) as well as determine the number of eligible recipients each year.

Announcements of the awards shall be communicated and publicized on or before July 15 of the current year. All awards will be in check, accompanied by such other means of recognition of the successful candidate's status may be prescribed by the Trustees..

Purpose of the Scholarship
The Trust is created for the educational purposes within the meaning of Section 501 ( c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986, as amended from time to time. Specifically, the purpose of the trust is to provide educational opportunities for the eligible participants as stated above, and in this connection may award scholarships and tuition and may otherwise undertake and support such activities as will further the educational opportunities available to those persons.

Fishing Tournament Raffle Winner, Wins a Mule

Bob Turner of the Polk County Chapter PDCA Blue Water Tournament presented Skeet Becker with a Mule that he won during the Saturday evening trophy dinner in Islamorada, Florida Keys.  Skeet was the lucky winner of the raffle.  He stated that this will come in handy at his mountain home in North Carolina. 


The "Pop" Woods Scholarship

Great News! The 9th Annual Pop Woods Scholarship Fund Blue Water Fishing Tournament Hosted by the Polk County Chapter PDCA Saturday July 16, 2005 at the Holiday Isle Beach Resort, Islamorada, Florida Keys raised $26,000.00 for Scholarships.



This was a big day for the Polk County Chapter PDCA and Skeet Becker.  Brynn Summerlin of the Polk County Chapter delivered a check in the amount of $ 26,000.00 to Skeet Becker for the Pop Woods Scholarship Fund.  In 2005 there were 14 scholarship recipients. The scholarship fund has 5 trustees, Mark Woods, a permanent trustee, Skeet Becker, a permanent trustee, Brynn Summerlin, Tom Waldo and Cliff Dykes.
